These allow students and staff to connect to the ADFAWide networking service provided by ICTS.  For more information on configuration and coverage, please visit Wireless within the Library  If you need assistance with configuration please ask at the Library Service Desk.

Access issues

Access to the Internet and to electronic journals, databases and other online resources is only available to Academy staff and students due to contractual and other legal requirements.

UNSW@ADFA students trying to access these resources from their place of employment may find that access is blocked by their employer's firewall arrangements. Students will need to be able to conduct searches from a computer outside of a firewall.

Please use the Electronic Access Problem form if you experience difficulties in accessing our online resources.

Library Catalogue Computers (Publicly available)

Access to the Library catalogue only - links to electronic resources and web sites do not work.

Any computers unattended for more than 15 minutes may be logged off by Library staff and made available for other users.

  • Time Limits. There are normally no time limits unless there is high demand for the computers. Users may be asked to make computers available within 10 minutes if their activities are not course-related (e.g. gaming). If you send your assignment to yourself by email, please make sure it is saved to your H:drive.  Click on SAVE rather than OPEN when you are prompted to download the attached file, otherwise you may lose your document. We recommend that you save work regularly during each session, since at times there may be unexpected network disruption.

  • Purchase of disks. CDs are sold at the Co Op Book Shop.

Printing from the Multi purpose machines

  • Printing. Black and white printing: 17 cents is deducted from network accounts for each page printed. You must have a network account credit balance in order to print.
    • Duplex, or double sided printing, is the default on all Library computers. This is a Library environmental initiative to help reduce paper wastage.
    • There is a 10% discount on the total cost of printing if a job is duplexed. As printing rates are charged per page of text, and not per sheet of paper,
      ie 2 pages on 2 sheets = 34cents. 2 pages duplexed = 31cents.

When you print a document you will be asked to accept the charges before the document is printed.

Make sure the information displayed is correct before you select OK'.

If you accept the charges the job will print to the computer's default printer - Lounge01 for computers in the Lounge and TopFloor01 for computers on the top floor.

If you encounter any problems with printing please report it to the Service Desk.

  • Online print accounts. In order to print, your print account must be in credit balance. Money may be added to your account at the Library’s Service Desk using cash. There is a minimum amount of $2 accepted in the Library. Refunds are NOT given for unused credit. You can check your account balance once logged on by moving your mouse over the Printing Information icon (bottom right of the screen), or by asking at the Service Desk.

Photocopiers

  • Photocopying and Printing from the Microform Reader/Printer
A re-loadable copy card system is used to operate photocopiers, and the microform reader/printer.

There are currently 2 photocopiers available for use by clients of the Library located in the Lounge and on the top floor.

To use the photocopiers and the microform reader/printer please insert your copy card into the card reader attached to each machine before you begin copying. Please remember to remove your card by pressing the 'Esc' key when you have completed your copying.

  • Purchasing a Copy Card

A card dispenser/reloader unit is installed in the Cloak Room as you enter the library. Please make sure you carefully read and follow the instructions on the card dispenser/reloader unit prior to purchasing or loading money.
  • Costs (inclusive of GST) are:
Purchase of Copy Card $2.00 (with $1.00 credit)
    Photocopying- per copy
        A4 17 cents
        A3 30 cents
    Microform
        per copy 35 cents

Please remember that you can load additional money (up to a maximum of $20 each time) to the card up to 40 times before needing to purchase a replacement card.

The photocopying service is intended to be a self-funding ‘user pays’ system. The aim is to ensure that revenue from the photocopying service covers operating costs. Given the small number of users and the low volume of copying overall, it is not possible for the Academy Library to achieve the lower per copy costs available at larger universities.
