The Multimedia Collection is located on the Top Floor, adjacent
to the Current Periodicals Collection. For assistance in locating
multimedia items or equipment, see the Services desk in the Library's
foyer.
The collection has over 10 000 videos, DVDs, CDs, kits, slides,
sound recordings and edited highlights from current affairs programs
(ABC and SBS News and 7.30 Report).
What Can I Borrow?
Three multimedia items of each format may be borrowed at any one
time, eg. 3 videos, 3 CDs and 3 kits. These items are normally
issued for a period of 14 days. Off-air recordings may be borrowed
by Academy staff and students only. Unique items, eg off-air news
recordings are not available for loan but can be accessed in the
Library.
Searching for Multimedia Material
All multimedia material is listed in the Library
catalogue.
When searching the catalogue, it is possible to restrict a search
to multimedia items only or to a particular format such as Video,
DVD, Sound Recording or Kit.
- To restrict your search results to videorecording or DVD,
use the 'Quick Limits' option
with a title search.
- To retrieve all multimedia items in the collection, select
'Guided Search', enter av and
in the 'Search In' drop-down menu, select 'Subject'.
Then click on the 'Search' button (you may need to scroll down
the screen) to view the list of over 6900 items in the collection.
Searching for
News Broadcasts
Edited highlights from the ABC and SBS news and 7.30 Report are
held in the Multimedia Collection as well as edited excerpts from
other major current affairs programs. ABC news highlights are
from 1985 - 1991; the 7.30 Report from 1985 - 2004; and the SBS
news from 1991 - 2003. This material can be located by using the
Library Catalogue.
- News items may be searched by subject, program title or chapter
or segment title.
Use the 'Sort By' fuction in ascending or descenting chronological
order.
DVD and Video Players
VCR and DVD players are available for viewing material at the
individual workstations. VHS and U-Matic video players are available
for viewing of PAL, SECAM or NTSC tapes. A group viewing room
is availble for up to twelve people to view material at one time.
This room is located adjacent to the Information Commons area.
Audio Players
Audio players are also available and are located in the Multimedia
Collection.
Equipment for use
outside of the Library
Multimedia equipment is available for use within the Library
but it is not for loan. Equipment for use outside the Library
is available from the Educational Technology Services (ETS). Please

Borrowing from
Other Libraries/Services
If the Library does not hold the material you require, it may
be possible to obtain it from elsewhere via our Inter
Library Loans and Document Delivery Service. Video and film
material is also available from the National
Film and Sound Archive's Collection.
