In addition to the staff and students of UNSW@ADFA,
the Library is open to members of the public who are welcome
to use the Library.
Other Borrower
Categories
The Library provides basic borrowing privileges to a number of
public borrower types. These are:
- Australian Defence Force/Department of Defence personnel
- Reciprocal borrowers (UNSW, ACTUAL and ULA)
- Fee-paying borrowers
Australian
Defence Force/Department of Defence Borrowers
Australian Defence Force and Department of Defence personnel located
in Canberra can apply for basic borrowing privileges at the Academy
Library. As part of the registration process, a $100 deposit is
required. This deposit is fully-refundable (assuming no outstanding,
lost or damaged items) when the borrower no longer requires access
to borrowing privileges.
Reciprocal
Borrowers
Through the ACTUAL (ACT University Academic Libraries) group, the Academy Library
has reciprocal borrowing arrangements with the libraries of the Australian
National University, the University
of Canberra, the Australian
Catholic University (Signadou Campus), and Charles Sturt University (St
Mark's Theological College).
In addition, the Academy Library has a reciprocal arrangement
with the University of
New South Wales Library.
As part of the University
Library Australia scheme, the Library also allows staff and
students enrolled at other universities to register for basic
borrowing privileges.
Fee-paying borrowers
Other persons not eligible under the above categories may apply
for borrowing privileges which are fee based. Fees for individual
borrowers are $66 per Semester (6 months) or $122 per annum. Fees
include GST.
What is required?
All non-UNSW@QADFA borrowers wanting borrowing privileges at the
Academy Library must complete a registration form and provide
ID with name and address information. Staff and students of other
universities must also provide proof of current enrolment (students)
or employment (staff). ADF/Defence personnel must provide proof
of employment. Any fees or deposits must be paid at the time of
registration.
Once registered, public borrowers need to visit the ICTS Card
Centre to have a photograph taken for a Library card. This card
can be collected the next working day.
Borrowing Conditions
All loans are issued from
the Service desk on the Ground Floor of the Library. To borrow
material, present your Library card and the item/s at the Service desk. Do
not forget this Library card as you cannot borrow without it!
Public borrowers may borrow up to 10
items from the general collections
for a period of 4 weeks. Access
to UNSW@ADFA's Course Reserve and Defence Collections is limited.
Three
items included as part of the 10 item limit, can be borrowed
from the
Mulitmedia
Collection for a 2 week period. Note: Off-air recordings are only
available to UNSW@ADFA staff and students.
Photocopying and Printing
The Library has a card operated copy/printing charging system
which uses a re-chargeable card. Facilities for photocopying and
printing from public access computers are available on each floor
of the Library.
For more information, see Computing
Services, Photocopying and Printing.
Returns
Items must be returned to the Library
on or before the due date. Do not leave these items on the Service
desk. When the Library is open, the returns are
to be placed through the internal return chute. For out-of-hours returns,
there is a book chute to the left of the main entrance doors.
I've Lost my Library
Card
If you lose your Library card, please report it immediately to the staff at
the Service desk, who will then advise you on how to obtain a replacement card.
I've Lost my Library Item/s!
Please report all lost, damaged or missing library items to the Service desk
staff, who will provide a Missing, Lost and Damaged form
for you to complete.
REMEMBER YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ITEMS
BORROWED ON YOUR ID CARD - DO NOT LOAN YOUR LIBRARY CARD TO ANYBODY
Charges/Fines
Currently the only charges levied by the Library are for lost or damaged items.
The charge includes replacement costs and a non-refundable administration
fee.
