ELISE Online Tutorial

What is ELISE?
ELISE (Enabling Library and Information Skills for Everyone) is an online tutorial about how information is organised and used at university. Finding information can be overwhelming and not knowing what you're doing may lead to wasted time and energy, or even legal trouble.

To perform your best at UNSW@ADFA, you need to learn how to find, use and evaluate the mass of information available. You'll also need to know how to use information ethically. Plagiarism or not adequately acknowledging where your information or ideas come from is a serious offence at UNSW@ADFA.

ELISE is there to help give you the basic knowledge about dealing with information appropriately. Every first year undergraduate student must complete the ELISE online tutorial, including the quiz. Other students are welcome to access the online tutorial at any time although they are not required to complete the quiz component.

Do all first year undergraduates really have to do it?
Yes. It is required by the University. You need to work through the online tutorial just once and then complete a quiz consisting of 10 questions. You are required to obtain a score of 80% (8/10) to meet university requirements. You are allowed to have as many quiz attempts as is required to obtain this score.

When do I need to complete ELISE?
Every first year undergraduate student is expected to complete ELISE (the weblog and the quiz) in the first semester of their first year.

What will happen if I haven't done it?
At the end of the time period allowed in first semester, ELISE enrolments will be checked and students who have not completed the quiz will be followed up.

How do I start?
Access is also provided through the Undergraduates services page and the Library's Resources page.

Where can I do ELISE?
Anywhere you can access a computer - uni, home, work.

What hours of the day can I do it?
Because it's online, you can do it 24/7.

How long will it take me?
If you already have a good grasp of the organisation and use of information it should take less than 30 minutes. If there is material you need to go over more than once, it may take longer. Most students take less than 10 minutes to do the quiz.

What if I need help?
If you have any issues with using ELISE, content or technical, please contact the Ask Us service for assistance.
