    Historiography: 18th to the 20th century
    East Asia (China, Japan) from 1800

    English literature : 16th century to contemporary (some specialist areas include : Drama 15th to 17th centuries; British poetry of the 1930s and 1940s

    Government of countries: 20th century
    International relations: 17th century onwards
    Political theory: Classical - Greek and Roman - 15th century onwards

3. Geographical coverage
    There are no geographic limits for these disciplines. Countries and regions of major interest to each are Australia and Australasia; Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia; Europe and the United States; and also specifically:

    History
    Canada; Germany; Great Britain; India; East Asia, especially China and Japan; Pacific Islands; Russia and what was formerly the Soviet Union,

    Literature
    Canada, India, New Zealand and otherpost-colonial countries, Asia Pacific literature in English (excluding the Americas).

    Politics
    Regions of interest: Northeast Asia; South Pacific; Middle East

    Specific countries: Afghanistan; Australia; China; India; Japan; Korea; Russia; Vietnam

4. Does material become dated in this field? If so, how far back is material generally significant?

    Some critical material in literature becomes dated. Political theory is not regarded as an area which becomes dated. However, in most of the other teaching areas in Politics some material does become dated. In History, material published in all periods is relevant.
5. Language guidelines

    Basically English, and also Indonesian, but some Dutch, French and German and Russian material is acquired.

    Literary source material should generally be in English with some minor exceptions

Pre-1700 historical studies are important background material for some courses. Books on art and music can provide important background material. Also Philosophy; Sociology; Behavioural Science.
